About Upright Graphics

Upright Graphics was created in December 1996 by Jack Frisch, out of an interest and knowledge of Jazz and a goal of providing quality and affordable designs for the music industry.

Within 6 months of its first web site design for the late Hiram Bullock, the word was out in New York City's busy Jazz scene. His reputation grew for providing affordable and high quality CD packages, web sites and shooting photography for individual artists and record labels at recording sessions and or on-location for use in CD packages, advertising campaigns, press kits and more.

By 1998, Jack's work was known in the International Jazz scene, working with prolific Jazz producer Todd Barkan for Venus Records of Japan and Timeless Records in Holland.

In 2001, Jack received a Grammy Certificate in Recognition of participation as the Art Director on the 2001 Grammy Award winning Marcus Miller recording "M2" (pronounced M squared) in the category Best Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year. Since then Upright Graphics has gone on to design four more CDs for Miller's own 3Deuces label, "The Ozell Tapes", "Silver Rain", "Marcus" and Renaissance.

In September 2005 Upright Graphics was nominated for an Alex Entertainment award for Best Jazz CD package design for Marcus Miller's CD "Silver Rain".

Over the years Frisch's work has appeared in such International magazine as Bass Player, Jazz Improv Quarterly, Jazziz, Japan's Swing Journal and Bassics to name a few.

He has been hired time after time as Art director and designer of CD packaging by the most recognized and prolific Jazz labels World-wide in the genre such as Concord, Telarc, Universal Music, Song Records, Dreyfus Records, Enja, Fantasy, Milestone, HighNote, Koch, Timeless, Venus, Victor Entertainment, Zoho, BluJazz and others.

In June 2009, Jack became a voting member of the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Today, with credits for CD design and or photography on over 150 CDs, numerous website designs, some of which have been online for over 16 years or more, Jack Frisch's Upright Graphics is recognized as the single source for all the services it offers, in Jazz.
